What sets your product apart and why is it innovative?
The use of bio-based materials in color cosmetic pencils has been a major challenge due to the inability of most natural materials to preserve volatile ingredients in high-performance formulas. This is why most makeup-pencils available today are made from virgin plastic. However, the technology of TheBetterBarrel significantly reduces the need for virgin fossil plastic to preserve the volatile ingredients. This means that brands can now package their best-selling liners in a more sustainable way, while maintaining the same formula and performance. In essence, this technology offers greater customization possibilities, more sustainable materials, and the same level of performance.
How do you promote your product on multiple channels?
The products were launched at the international trade show in MakeUp in Paris in June 2023, accompanied by a communication campaign from Schwan Cosmetics through various online channels (social media, website) and PR activities.
TheBetterBarrel is also presented by Schwan Cosmetics' global sales team, in direct contact with cosmetic brands worldwide. All communication is transparent and informative, to deliver the complex technology in a consumer-friendly way.
How does your product meet the evaluation criteria of its category?
TheBetterBarrel natural superstay eyeliner & lipliner deserves the Cosmopack Asia Award because it combines sustainability and high performance in color cosmetics. Schwan Cosmetics has always believed that sustainability and high performance should go hand in hand. We understand that today’s consumers want sustainable options, but also high-performance products. Natural products that lose performance during application won’t be used by end consumers and will end up in the bin, which will not bring about a long-term change in attitudes and purchasing behaviour. That is why sustainability only works with high performance. In developing TheBetterBarrel, this was exactly our goal: to make our large lining segment more sustainable, without reducing our promise of a high-quality product, because we believe that every little bit counts when it comes to protecting the planet. We hope that this product will inspire other companies to prioritize sustainability and high performance in their products.
